A Maltese woman who was reunited with her son on Italian television after 40 years, passed away a few days after the programme was recorded.
The programme, C’e’ posta per te, was broadcast on Canale 5 yesterday but no mention was made of her demise.
The son, Roberto, had launched a search for her after learning that he was adopted by a couple in Sicily from an institute in Malta.
His adoptive parents had withheld information on his past for fear that they would lose him.
His biological mother, Angela, was tracked to Pembroke and she accepted an invitation to take part in the programme.
Tears flowed as she met Roberto and his wife on the programme, saying she had had to give him up following pressure from her parents because she was only 17 when she gave birth.
However she always had him in her heart and had prayed for this day.
His first words on seeing his mother were E bella.
Roberto rushed to Malta after Angela fell ill and attended the funeral.
