The International and Euro Kick Boxing Title Fights, organised by the Martial Arts All Styles Federation, were held recently in England. The tournament, bringing together over 1,000 competitors, took place at the Elmbridge Leisure Centre in Surrey.

Seven different training areas were used for the various competitions which included Nunchaku Combat, Viking Combat, Bo Staff Combat, Combat jitsu, Self Defence, Katas, SCI Forms and kick boxing.

The Maltese team, made up of 12 participants, including Kancho Adrian Axisa - the Martial Arts All Styles Federation representative for Malta, spent nine days in the UK, between November 10 and 19. During their visit, they participated in various workshops in self-defence and kick boxing throughout the week prior to the big day (November 17).

The highlights of the evening were the European Kick Boxing Championships. Malta won three from the five titles at stake. Out of 13 international fights, Malta won seven, lost four, drew one and got disqualified once.

U-14 international title - Noel Azzopardi beat Connor O'Leary (UK). Azzopardi also won another two international fights.

U-18 International Youth Featherweight title - Matthew Azzopardi vs Neil Youngman (UK) - Azzopardi was disqualified. Azzopardi won his international fight.

Middle Weight European title - Gerald Busuttil lost to Jason Scully (UK).

Light Middleweight European title - Noel Mercieca beat Christopher Bell (UK).

U-16 European Lightweight title - Ruth Tanti beat Lisa Simpson (UK).

U-18 Lightweight European title - Daniel Zahra beat Kevin Broken (UK).

Light Heavyweight title - Christopher Debono lost to Mark Blunden (UK).
