Alex Borg, Simon Zammit and Duncan Bezzina are flying the Maltese flag at the 2010 World Championships which begin today in Damascus, Syria.

A total of 164 players from 45 countries are competing in the championships.

In the men’s event, Bezzina is in Group K along with Egypt’s Wael Talaat, Bernhard Bernhrdsson (Iceland), Abdullah Al Kandari (Kuwait), Nizar Abdullah Assiri (Saudi Arabia), Steve Mifsud (Australia), Mohammad Rais Sen (Afghanistan) and Susantha Botheju, of Sri Lanka.

Borg has been drawn in Group H where he will be facing Ling Tang Ho, of Hong Kong, Sohail Shahzad (Pakistan), Maged Shafik (Egypt), Roy Stolk (Netherlands), Anthony Brabin (Cyprus), Ibrahim Alkhder Alahmd (Syria) and Ahmed Abdullah Assiri (Saudi Arabia).

In the seniors tournament, Zammit’s Group A opponents are Vyacheslav Sorokin (Russia), George Chammas (Syria), Chuchart Trairattanapradit (Thailand), Masayuki Koshimo (Japan), Petri Kopponen (Finland) and Munier Cassim (South Africa).
