Around 30,445 Maltese are estimated to have gone abroad by air and sea in September, up from 29,331 in the same month last year.
The National Statistics Office said that 26,308 travelled to EU destinations, mostly Italy and the UK. Most were aged between 25 and 44.
The number of outbound travellers between January and September reached 229,271, an increase of 5.4 percent over the corresponding period last year.
Of these, 85.7 percent travelled to EU destinations, mostly Italy and the UK.
57 percent were male. Most travellers (45.4 percent) were aged between 25 and 44 years. Those in the 45 to 64 age bracket accounted for 37 per cent of total Maltese travellers.
