David Tabone will be cycling 550 km in aid of charity - from Rosslare, Ireland, to Edinburgh, Scotland - a feat which will begin on March 5.

Half the funds raised will go towards the Malta Hospice Movement via the Dallaglio Foundation; the other half to Sport Relief in the UK.

Mr Tabone is the only Maltese who has joined former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio on the fifth and final stage of a major fundraising cycle event during the 2010 RBS Six Nations, which saw him leave Rome last Friday and cycle to Murrayfield, taking in the national rugby stadia in Paris, Twickenham, Cardiff and Dublin along the way.

In total, Mr Dallaglio will be on his bike for 24 days and will cover just over 2,800 km, and in partnership with the BBC's Sport Relief campaign, the cycle ride hopes to raise £1 million for Sport Relief and the recently established Dallaglio Foundation, which in turn will support Cancer Research UK, DebRA, Help for Heroes, Leukaemia Research, the RPA Benevolent Fund and the RFU Injured Players Foundation. The Malta Hospice Movement will also be supported through his campaign.

Mr Dallaglio set up the Dallaglio Foundation in January last year as a tribute to his mother who passed away in 2008 from cancer.

Having been overwhelmed by the support she received while being treated, both from the Cancer Research UK team as well as the hospital and care staff, he decided to establish a foundation in her memory to raise much needed funds to help fight the battle against this dreadful disease.

The official website, www.dallagliocycleslam.com, includes information about the core riders, 250 fundraising cyclists including Mr Tabone, stages, routes and celebrities taking part.
