Joseph Mifsud, current Malta Table Football champion, and Hansel Mallia, no.3 player, recently made their debuts for prominent UK team, English Premier League, in the Europa Cup in Beausoleil, France.

The experience was positive indeed as English Premier League finished seventh from 24 top European clubs which took part.

Mifsud played in all matches and most notable was his 2-2 draw against Gil Delogne, the Belgian world no.2 who plays for Eagles Napoli.

His appearances for English Premier League in the Europa Cup as well as other positive displays in tournaments in Belgium saw Mifsud improving his world ranking to 50. Mallia is no.72.

There was more good news for Maltese players after the latest world rankings were issued by the world body.

In the U-19 category, there are four Maltese players in the top 30 - world champion Roderick Sciberras (no.7), Jean Carl Tabone (no.18), Ilai Zammit Marmara (no.21) and Samuel Bartolo (no.28). Melanie Fenech, World Cup semi-finalist, is ranked no.18 in the women's class.

Malta's Open team, World Cup semi-finalists, is now ranked fourth in the list for national teams behind Italy, Belgium and Greece.

Malta U-19, the world champions, are ranked second behind Belgium.

The Malta Table Football Sports Association this week announced that those interested in playing in any of their championships this season may obtain more details by phoning the MTFSA on 9985-8955 or email: patrpace@orbit.net.mt.
