The Labour Party said today that it welcomed the fact that knowledge of the Maltese language remained a requirement for the recruitment of cabin crew at Air Malta.

Spokesman Gavin Gulia noted the agreement announced yesterday between the airline and the Union of Cabin Crew in connection with the airline's restructuring.

Air Malta, he said, had finally accepted, in writing, that knowledge of the Maltese language would remain a requirement for the recruitment of crews.

Last December, he said, the government and the airline had decided to drop this requirement and the decision was only reversed after it was revealed by Labour leader Joseph Muscat.
