The Maltese-registered cruise liner Clelia II has declared an emergency after it became stranded in the Antarctic with 160 passengers on board.

The ship was navigating the Drake Passage to Ushuaia when a fault in its propellors developed.

According to search and rescue officials, it has limited maneuverability.

Weather conditions are harsh.
