Fr Philip Cutajar was recently awarded the Premio Solidaridad by the Cuban civil authorities, acknowledging his work with AIDS patients in Santa Clara, Cuba, where he leads the Diocesan Health Commission.

He received the award during a Mass organised on World AIDS Day, led by Bishop Arturo Gonzales Amador, assisted by Fr Cutajar and other priests.

The Mass was offered for AIDS patients who succumbed to their illness during the past year.

After receiving the award, Fr Cutajar thanked the Cuban authorities as well as those present at the Mass. He dedicated the award to all those who helped him in this charitable work in favour of those affected by AIDS and their relatives.

He also expressed his gratitude towards the Church in Cuba, to the Franciscan Capuchin Order for instilling in him a special love towards the sick and the suffering and to his Maltese benefactors.

At the end of the Mass the AIDS patients present offered roses to 15 people who helped and showed them solidarity during the year.
