Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has officially inaugurated an EC language school in New York - the third school in the USA to be acquired by the Maltese group of English language schools.

The school, with an enviable location overlooking Times Square opened in early 2009 and has enjoyed flourishing student numbers despite the global economic crisis.

Dr Gonzi was greeted by Andrew Mangion EC’s Executive Chairman who spoke on the EC success story and credited the staff across the group for the successes the company has experienced.

“This year EC’s 700 plus staff will help over 25,000 students from over 120 countries to learn and improve their English language skills. A language which will expand people’s horizons and allow them to see further, bringing them together and understanding one another,” Mr Mangion said.

Dr Gonzi congratulated EC for its international expansion, reminding the audience that although Malta was small, as a nation, it could compete and succeed in an international environment. He said EC’s success was in line with the governments Vision 2015 project in terms of promoting educational excellence.

EC has eight year-round English language schools in the USA, UK, South Africa and Malta. It plans to open another school in San Francisco.
