A 25-year-old Maltese man was today jailed for a year after he admitted to having tried to leave the country with an ID card which was not his.

Jeremy James Farrugia, of Birkirkara, used his brother's ID card to try to leave Malta for London last Monday.

He also admitted to having breached probation conditions and relapsing.

Legal aid lawyer Martin Fenech told the court that his client wanted to go to the UK to see a medical consultant and had every intention to return.

Police Inspector Keith Arnaud said the truth was quite the opposite and the accused had a one ticket. He also pointed out that the accused was being investigated on another case, and also had a pending court case.
