Lara Degiorgio, 27, is the marketing executive at GlobalCapital plc. Her role consists in coordinating and developing all marketing efforts on behalf of the company and its product lines. She has been working with GlobalCapital plc for the past seven years.

Ms. Degiorgio is full of enthusiasm for her work and clearly enjoys what she does, "My day-to-day job consists in executing the marketing plan which I would have prepared at the end of the previous year. A few of my daily duties are planning and executing advertising campaigns,  corporate events and press releases along with constantly updating corporate social media pages and the two company websites – globalcapital.com.mt and bupa.com.mt." The company had just launched a brand new website. "My goals are to keep increasing brand awareness and to help educate the public on the importance of planning ahead, setting goals for the future and ensuring that these are followed through come what may."

The Maltese market is crowded but mature, a setting which requires an edge over the competition. "That's part of my job in the marketing department - looking for ways to communicate the brands and our value proposition. A lot of strategic thought has gone into our positioning and we have built an excellent position in the local life insurance segment". Social media plays an important part. She is constantly promoting their products and services online.

"I’d say what makes of our company a successful story is its personnel. We’re trying to improve our processes and recruit good people that would then get special training. We've been able to use EU-funding to help train our staff and the turnover rate for our employees is not high at all. A lot of our employees stay with us and are happy to be with us, and when our employees are happy, they increase customer satisfaction."

"I do not deal with macro-issues, but I think anyone can see that there are challenges and opportunities for Malta’s insurance industry. Malta's insurance industry is relatively small, but EU membership is helping the country to penetrate new markets and to attract international insurance management and reinsurance operations. Undoubtedly, EU regulations also give rise to a number of challenges within our industry."

While being totally committed to her job Lara spends little time on the skulduggery and machinations of the political arena.

"I don't follow anything political. But on May 24th I will definitely vote, it's a duty, and probably starting from the week before the election I'll pay attention to who is saying what and then make my decision! Whether we like it or not, what MEPs will be doing will have an impact, not just on the insurance business, but on several aspects of our lives. Might as well participate in the choice!"
