Louis Cassar has been elected president of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Centre International de Hautes Etudes Agro-nomiques Méditerranéenne.

Prof. Cassar is director of the Institute of Earth Systems at the University of Malta. He is a landscape ecologist and environmental planner by training, with extensive Mediterranean experience in aspects of environmental management, specifically biodiversity conservation.

The centre is an intergovernmental organisation composed of 13 member states. It works to promote Mediterranean-wide cooperation in agriculture, food, fisheries and rural territories.

The advisory board, of which Prof. Cassar was already a member, is made up of eminent scholars who are appointed for four years by the governing board.
