Clothes and shoes donated by the Ministry of Finance have been distributed to poor families in the Gaza Strip by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

The shipment, which was also funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was coordinated through the Representative Office of Malta to the Palestinian National Authority in Ramallah.

The Finance Ministry in a statement noted that the Gaza Strip has been under military blockade since 2007 and has seen an increasingly deteriorating humanitarian situation with 38% of Gazans currently living in poverty.

Malta, together with the rest of the EU, has been repeatedly calling for the lifting of the blockade of Gaza.

UNRWA provides assistance, protection and advocacy for some 5 million registered Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territory, pending a solution to their plight.
