A Maltese Chinese Chamber of Commerce is to be set up this Monday, January 31, the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and the People’s Republic of China.

The new Chamber is being set up on the initiative of The Malta China Friendship Society.

A statement by the organisation said it was taking this initiative because a number of Maltese businessmen recognised that after many years of promoting friendship between the people of China and Malta, the society has become a key player in promoting business between the two countries.

The creation of the Maltese Chinese Chamber of Commerce was announced by Reno Calleja, chairman of the Malta China Friendship Society during an Asian dinner organised by his association to mark the 39th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Malta and China.

Mr Calleja said the initiative has the support of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, which is where the launch will be held on Monday.

“The target date for this meeting is Monday, January 31, which is a historic date full of symbolism,” said Mr Calleja.
