Malta's theatre sensation Porn - the Musical made its debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last Friday to an enthusiastic audience.

Staged at the George 4 Theatre, the audience laughed out loud and warmly applauded the show, which features the story of Stefan Bugeja who leaves his home in Malta and gets embroiled in the adult film industry.

This is the first time a local musical is taking part in the most famous theatre festival in the world for a full month.

Developed by Malcolm Galea, Boris Cezek, and Kris Spiteri, collectively known as Indiskarf, Porn - The Musical was a hit when performed in Malta in March at the MITP, and then again in July at Argotti Gardens.

The show generated so much hype in Malta that it attracted the interest of world-renowned theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh, who watched one of the performances last week.

"The musical has generated a lot of interest from the mainstream media, including newspapers such as The Daily Telegraph and The Mirror, as well a number of radio stations," the show's producer Winston Azzopardi said.

The cast includes Max Dingli as the hapless Stefan, Sarah Naudi as the bosomy Sanddy, Louis Cassar as the dubious Martin Scoresleazy, David Ellul as the cocky Dr Johnny Long, Toni Attard as the Miscellaneous Man, Eliza Borg as the morally unsound Jade and Malcolm Galea as the Narrator. Choreography is by Emma Loftus.

Porn - the Musical will run at the festival until August 31.
