JCI Malta & Malta Clean-up have teamed up in the organisation of this year’s ‘Let’s Do It’ National Clean-up Campaign that will take place on September 16.
They are raising funds via a rewards based crowdfunding campaign on Zaar, to continue working on their project to clean Malta in a day.
The campaign is targeting to raise over €10,000 to clean up the islands while increasing awareness of littering and lack of recycling in Malta with the ultimate aim of changing the mindset of the Maltese population.
The €105,081,000 per year spent on solid ‘Waste Management’, based on NSO data from 2015, was clearly insufficient to keep the islands clean, the campaign said
Much of the plastic and waste dumped in different sites ended up in the sea, impacting sea life. This was so much so that it was forecast that there would be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050.
