The twenty deals struck in Maltacom shares saw the equity close the week at Lm1. This amounted to an increase of 0.1 per cent over the opening price of Lm0.99. During the week trading ranged between Lm0.92 and Lm1. Best bids for 1,000 shares at Lm0.96 stood against best offers of 7,762 shares at Lm1 at the end of the week.

Eighteen deals were struck in HSBC shares over the week, in which 41,440 shares changed hands. Trading in this security opened the week at Lm4.05 and ranged between Lm4.049 and Lm 4.11. This latter was also the closing price for the week, making the net movement equivalent to a gain of 1.481 per cent. Best outstanding bids and offers respectively following yesterday's session were made up of 2,740 shares at Lm4 and 200 shares at Lm4.20.

Modest gains were also registered in Bank of Valletta shares over the course of this week. Opening at Lm2.32, the share price fell to Lm2.301 during the week, reached a high of Lm2.35, before closing at Lm2.34. This was equal to a gain of 0.862 per cent. Turnover amounted to 6,075 shares being traded over eleven deals. At the close of business on Friday, 873 shares at Lm 2.30 were left as best bids, while best offers of 1,180 shares at Lm2.34 remained outstanding.

Malta International Airport shares opened the week at Lm 0.72, down by 1c from the previous closing price. These shares went on to close the week at Lm 0.70, a decrease of 2.778 per cent on the opening price. Twelve deals were struck in all, over which 50,700 shares changed hands. Following the close of yesterday's trading session, 1,000 shares at Lm0.60 and 3,235 shares at Lm0.71 were the remaining best bids and offers respectively.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place: 500 International Hotels Investments shares at Lm0.89; 24,670 Lombard Bank shares between Lm3.38 and Lm 3.26; 6,244 Middle Sea Insurance shares between Lm2.18 and Lm2.20; 1,000 GloBAl Financial Services Group shares at Lm0.19 and 1,000 Datatrak Holdings shares at Lm0.399.

Trading over the week in Corporate Bonds was made up of a total value of Lm462,837, while total Malta Government Stock turnover over the week amounted to a nominal value of Lm273,000 being struck in 33 deals over 20 different stocks. Friday saw the listing of the newly-issued Malta Government Stocks, the 5.4 per cent MGS 2010 (IV) and 5.9 per cent MGS 2015 (II) - Fungibility, dealing in these bonds is expected to commence on Monday.

The Malta Stock Exchange Share Index increased by 1.268 points over the week, equal to 0.07 per cent, and now stands at 1,909.639.
