Maltacom shares were once again the most traded on the Malta Stock Exchange, with 231,485 shares changing hands over22 deals. Price movement was minimal though, with the equity's price opening at Lm0.90 and closing at Lm0.89, having previously reached a weekly low of Lm0.881. As yesterday's session drew to a close 3,000 shares at Lm0.885 and 500 shares at Lm0.909 were still outstanding.

Bank of Valletta shares closed the week at Lm2.309, up by 0c9 on the previous week's close. Trading opened at Lm2.305 on Monday, with total turnover for the week amounting to 51,548 shares changing hands over 15 deals. Best bids for 20 shares at Lm2.305 and best offers of 7,868 shares at Lm2.31 remained outstanding following yesterday's session.

Trading in HSBC shares consisted of 24,050 shares changing hands over five deals, with the weekly price opening at Lm4.30 and closing at Lm4.40. This remained unchanged from the previous week's close. 1,500 shares at Lm4.30 and 6,540 shares at Lm4.40 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively after yesterday's trading session ended.

In a company announcement issued yesterday, Malta International Airport plc published the outcome of its recently held annual general meeting. Shareholders approved: the profit and loss account and balance sheet for the financial year ended March 31 and the directors' and duditors' report thereon; the payment of a net dividend of two cents per share (net payment of Lm1,353,000); and the appointment of auditors and the remuneration of the Board of Directors. No election of directors was held as only one nomination was received, so the one nominee and other appointees were appointed directors.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place: 2,820 International Hotel Investments shares between Lm0.88 and Lm0.885; 565 Middlesea Insurance shares at Lm2.57; 5,200 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares at Lm0.75; 8,800 FIMBank shares at USD 1.18 and 7,453 Datatrak shares at Lm0.30.

The two new Malta Government Stock issues closed as scheduled on Thursday at noon. The impact of the issues was felt on the Malta Stock Exchange as total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of just Lm16,600 being traded in 10 deals over seven different stocks. Trading over the week in Corporate Bonds was made up of a total value of Lm110,395.

The Malta Stock Exchange share index decreased by 4.867 points or 0.25 per cent over the week and now stands at 1,921.634.
