The majority of ICT specialists employed in Malta in 2016 - 63.1% - were younger than 35, according to Eurostat. This was the highest percentage of ICT specialists aged under 35 from among EU states.

The EU's statistical arm said that more than one of three ICT specialists (36.3%) in the EU was younger than 35.
Malta was followed by Latvia (54.1%), Poland (53.6%) and Lithuania (50.2%).
In contrast, persons younger than 35 accounted for fewer than a third of all ICT specialists employed by Italy (24.5%) and three EU Nordic states - Finland (28.6%), Sweden (30%) and Denmark (30.4%).
Eurostat noted that women were under represented among ICT specialists in all EU states, a striking contrast with total employment, where the genders were broadly balanced. In 2016, 83.3% of ICT specialists employed in the EU were men.
Malta also enjoyed the third highest share of male ICT specialists (88.3%).
It followed Slovakia (90.8%) and the Czech Republic (88.8%) and was followed by Greece (87.3%), Hungary (86.9%) and Croatia (86.7%).
The lowest shares were recorded in Bulgaria (69.8%), Romania (73.7%), Latvia and Lithuania (both 75.2%).
