Malta welcomed 2015 with a big bash in Valletta and parties in entertainment spots all over the island.

Hundreds of people crowded Palace Square to usher in the new year, undeterred by forecasts that this would be the coldest night in years.

A brass band got the crowd going before a cartoon production called Santa's Workshop, produced by Mcast students, was projected on the Palace façade followed by the count-down which consigned 2014 to history.

Fireworks were let off, confetti floated down and the band struck up Auld Lang Syne to welcome 2015 as people cheered, hugged and flashed lights from their mobile phones.

The Valletta bash was organised by the V-18 committee and transmitted live by TVM and One TV.
