San Lawrenz local council hosted members of the Malta Union of Tourist Guides to a day of cultural events last weekend. The idea behind this event was to offer active tourist guides the opportunity to learn about the locality, its culture, history and heritage.

The event started with a lecture on the origins and development of San Lawrenz through the ages. This was followed by a tour to the parish church, and a talk about the history of the church and the ongoing embellishment and restoration projects.

In the afternoon, guides were taken for a panoramic walk at Ras il-Wardija. Stephen Degiorgio explained the significance of the punic remains there.

This was followed by a performance by the Taċ-Ċangura Folk Group accompanied by a selection of typical Gozitan food.
