The Malta U-18 girls team made up for Tuesday's upset to Luxembourg (17-87) in the opening match from the European Championship Division C for women by beating Gibraltar comprehensively in their second match at Ta' Qali, yesterday.

Gibraltar were making their first showing but could never keep up with the locals' play that saw them racing to a 39-18 lead at half-time.

Malta relied on the baskets of Steffi Demartino, 23, and Rebecca Naudi, 22, to distance themselves from their opponents.

Luxembourg continued to underline their supremacy yesterday by inflicting a heavy defeat on Moldova 85-25.

Standings: Luxembourg (2-0) 4; Malta (1-1) 3; Monaco (1-0) 2; Moldova (0-2) 2; Gibraltar (0-1) 1.

Today: 4.30 p.m. Monaco vs Luxembourg; 6.45 p.m. Moldova vs Gibraltar.
