The Malta Parkinson’s Disease Association is joining forces with organisations from more than 150 countries on World Parkinson’s Day on Wednesday, seeking to raise global awareness of the disease as part of the ground-breaking #UniteForParkinsons campaign.

The campaign seeks to bring together people affected by the condition on a larger scale than ever, from a global community 10 million strong.

April 11 will see the launch of a campaign video made up entirely of people with Parkinson’s from across the world, including Malta. They will be talking about or showing what the condition means to them.

We are all united in the fight to raise vital awareness and overcome the daily challenges people face due to the lack of public understanding of the condition

Association president Veronica Clark said: “We are proud to be part of this exciting campaign to once again throw an international spotlight on the issues people with Parkinson’s can face. PD is a progressive neurological condition which affects everyone differently but we are all united in the fight to raise vital awareness and overcome the daily challenges people face due to the lack of public understanding of the condition. On World Parkinson’s Day, we want all people in Malta to show their support by watching and sharing our campaign video.”

This is simple to do: visit the association’s Facebook page on the day and watch, like or share the video using the hashtag #uniteforparkinsons.

Ms Clark added: “This April we also want to invite the 1,400 people living with PD in Malta to join our association so that we can support them throughout their journey, no matter how old they are. On Wednesday there will be a number of videos from our members encouraging other people to join our family and we hope that their message will reach many people who might be thinking of joining but are still not sure.”

The MPDA’s next meeting is on April 14 at 10am at the Education building, Floriana. It’s free but please book. Tel. 9999 2008 or info@maltaparkinsons.com.
