Malta has been selected to stage the UEFA European Under-17 Championship final tournament of 2014, UEFA announced today.

Bulgaria and Azerbaijan will host the championship in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

The 2014 showpiece in Malta will be the last to contain eight teams, following those of Slovenia this year and Slovakia in 2013.

This will be the first UEFA final tournament staged in Malta.

From 2015 the U17 final tournament will return to the 16-team format of its inaugural 2002 edition and the previous U16 Championship, with Bulgaria and Azerbaijan given the honour of staging the first two expanded events.

It was also announced that Lisbon's Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and the new Juventus Stadium will stage the 2014 finals of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, respectively.
