This weekend, the race officials of EUROSAF (European Sailing Federation) member countries will meet to allocate the vacant slots for next year’s regattas.

Malta has been chosen to host the 2010 meeting which is being held at the weekend at the Fortina Spa Resort Hotel in Sliema.

At such meetings, EUROSAF runs a facilitation programme for national and international officials to gain further experience while, at the same time, bringing the event organisers into contact with officials from across Europe.

EUROSAF has the ultimate objective of being an organisation with all European national sailing authorities as full members. Currently, there are 39 member countries from a maximum of 46. This year’s meeting, hosted by the Malta Sailing Federation, is being attended by 33 national federations.

The first Malta meeting of the EUROSAF race officials’ committee and the education working party is planned for tomorrow afternoon with the main workload being tackled in a full-day session on Saturday. This is being held at the clubhouse of the Royal Malta Yacht Club, Ta’ Xbiex.

Marco Predieri, the Italian president of EUROSAF, will be among the executive officials attending the Malta meeting.
