The European Broadcasting Union is to assist Malta in a review and updating of the National Broadcasting Policy.

The commitment was made in talks which Home Affairs Minister Emanuel Mallia had with EBU officials in Malmo.

The EBU will provide the infrastructure. legal assistance and expertise to help in the updating of the policy, drawn up in 2004, and which now needs to cater for technological advances, the ministry said. In this way, instead of Public Service Broadcasting, Malta would have Public Service Media.

Dr Mallia was accompanied by new PBS chairman Tonio Porthugese and CEO Anton Attard.

They met, among others, the EBU Director-General Ingrid Deltenre.

They also discussed plans for meetings in Malta  of the World Broadcasting Union (WBU) u the 70th Assembly of the EBU which will be held next month.
