An episode of the popular Italian television series Rex is to be shot entirely in Malta and screened in Spring next year, the Malta Tourism Authority said.

This was made possible through the efforts of the MTA's Film Unit and the Authority's office in Italy.

A film crew from the Italian production house ‘Leader Production' will be in Malta between October 26 and November 8 to film the episode which has been specifically scripted to be set in Malta, featuring Valletta, Vittoriosa, Mdina and Marsaxlokk amongst others.

The third edition of Rex, previously known as Il Commissario Rex, will be aired on Rai Uno between March and April during prime time. Kasper Capparoni, the protagonist of many renown TV series and miniseries such as Incantesimo, Elisa di Rivombrosa, Capri and others, is the main actor alongside Rex, the beautiful and intelligent German Shepherd. Other popular actors will be taking part in the Malta episode.

In 2008, the programme's viewership in Italy reached six and a half million per episode. The series is also screened in another 100 countries including Germany, Spain, Austria and Sweden.
