Malta’s business attractiveness will be showcased in London twice next month.

On November 2, The Banker and fDi magazine, in association with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, hold an afternoon briefing on ICT nearshoring In The European Union.

The event, by Financial Times Limited at Portland Place, will focus on Malta as a cost-effective option for knowledge-based operations. Near-shoring, as opposed to the previous trend for offshoring, involves outsourcing operations to countries with the economic benefits of offshore locations but with closer cultural, linguistic and geographical assimilations.

Speakers include HSBC Bank Malta chief executive officer Alan Richards; IBM vice-president, solutions and software, John Soyring; Vodafone Malta chief executive officer Inaki Berroeta; and De La Rue managing director, identity systems division, James Thorburn.

ICAEW, in association with Finance Malta, is holding a ‘Doing Business in Malta’ event at the Chartered Accountants’ Hall at Moorgate Place on November 25.

The morning event will provide an overview of the salient features of the island’s direct tax system and tax opportunities and information about international options for business operators and structures.

Chaired by Robin Fieth, executive director, finance and operations at ICAEW, the free event will hear a welcome address from Malta’s High Commissioner to the UK Joe Zammit Tabona. Speakers include Malta Enterprise executive chairman Alan Camilleri, Finance Malta chairman Kenneth Farrugia, and KPMG tax partner Juanita Brockdorff. A question and answer session will follow.
