The Malta Weightlifting Association has just held its second selection competition for the Mediterranean Cup which will be hosted on our shores between October 20 and 24.

Clint Grech had the best performance, finishing first with a personal best score of 171 points after a lift of 90kg in snatch and 117kg clean and jerk. He will be in the Malta team for the Mediterranean Cup along with veteran Noel Coleiro, the runner-up, and third-placed Christian Saliba.

They will be joined by Nicole Gatt who continued her positive streak with three national records in the women’s 44kg youth category.

Coleiro finished with a total of 221kgs for 261 points as Saliba established new records in the 94kg junior category. His total was 210kgs.

The men’s competition also saw the participation of Stephen Borg, Emmanuel Camilleri, Ryan Agius, Rodmar Pulis and Simon Brincat.

In the women’s event, Gatt finished ahead of runner-up Kimberly Coleiro.
