The Foreign Affairs Ministry has expressed deep shock at the Pittsburgh shooting incident, a terrorist attack during which 11 people lost their lives and other six were injured.

The shooting took place at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh during Saturday services.

Robert Bowers, 46, of Pittsburgh, was taken into custody after a shootout with a SWAT team. Federal prosecutors charged him with 29 criminal counts including violence and firearms offenses, and violating US civil rights laws.

"Malta conveys its deepest condolences and sympathies to the American government, the American people, and bereaved family members.

"The Maltese people firmly stand by the government of America and the American people at this hour of grief. Consistent to its principled position, Malta condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," the ministry said.
