Readers will no doubt recall that the last time that Malta tried to drill offshore, looking for oil, they were prevented from doing so by Libyan gunboats dispatched by Malta’s supposed “friend”, Muammar Gaddafi; the Maltese were told to behave themselves in no uncertain terms.

Given the current dramatic changes in Libya, it may be the opportune moment for Malta to resume its offshore drilling, this time perhaps under the watchful eye of our European partners’ armed forces.
