Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella has written to the UN Special Representative, Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, Martin Kobler, and congratulated him on his success and achievement in facilitating the return of the Presidency Council to Tripoli.

In his letter, Dr Vella said Mr Kobler’s efforts and toil were to be highly lauded and appreciated.

He said that despite the numerous political and security hurdles, Mr Kobler’s relentless work had borne the first fruit of a fair transition for the Government of National Accord.

Dr Vella csaid the arrival in Tripoli of the members of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord was an important milestone towards the founding of stability to Libya, and bringing the political process back on track for the implementation of the political agreement signed in Skhirat last year.

He acknowledged that the path to restore stability and security in Libya was still marked by a number of difficult challenges, but assured Malta’s unwavering support for the United Nations facilitated process.
