Tarxien Rainbows had a positive start to their Premier League campaign when they eased past Dingli Swallows 4 -1.
It was the Swallows who took a surprise lead after 11 minutes when Dingli midfielder Etienne Farrugia was upended in the area by Tarxien keeper Simon Curmi and the referee immediately pointed to the spot.
Joseph Okonkwo stepped up for the kick and fired the ball past Curmi. However, Dingli’s joy was shortlived as the Rainbows drew level two minutes later when man-of-the-match Denni Rocha Dos Santos tapped home Warren Chircop’s cross.
The match remained evenly balanced until the early stages of the second half when Tarxien forward Anderson Ribeiro took centre stage with two quick fire goals in the 56th and 59th minutes that guaranteed the points for the Rainbows.
Substitute James Shead sealed the points for Tarxien with a neat finish two minutes from time. Tarxien ended the match with ten men when Ribeiro was shown a second yellow card for lifting his shirt during his team’s celebrations of their fourth goal.
