Malta needed a new class of politics which led to concrete results and not political rhetoric, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this afternoon.

Speaking during a reception for the media and the social partners at the lobby of the party’s headquarters in Ħamrun, Dr Muscat invited the social partners to criticise, collaborate and dialogue with the Labour Party.

He described this year as one of important decisions during which the opposition would be going through a process of change in culture and mentality and not just appearances.

Besides being critical of the government, Dr Muscat said, the opposition should also be proactive and offer solutions. However, it had to be tough about certain decisions it did not agree with, such as the new water and electricity rates.

Other issues required consensus for the good of the country.
