Malta and Latvia this morning signed a bilateral agreement to strengthen their collaboration in fighting organised crime and terrorism.

The agreement focuses on information sharing and an exchange of expertise to combat terrorism, illicit trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances, smuggling, illegal immigration and other forms of organised crime. A joint commission will oversee the operation of the agreement.

Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici, who signed on Malta's behalf in Brussels, said Malta and Latvia shared many common goals in fighting the many forms of organised crime which more often than not knew no geographical or regional boandaries.
