The first Malta Jousting Tournament in at least 400 years is being organised at Fort Rinella in Kalkara this weekend by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna.

The event is meant to provide a unique spectacle and raise awareness about the sport in an entertaining atmosphere which should appeal to a variety of audiences. The spacious arena where the tournament will be held will also be furnished according to the theme, with food and drink stalls and open areas, making it an ideal venue for all the family.

The show will consist of a Jousting tournament with all its phases, from the well-known cavalry clashes to on-ground sword fighting and knights displays.

Visitors will be able to feel the thrill of assisting to the show of skill and ancient pageantry through an opportunity to feel and try on iron suits of armour.

The Jousting Tournament displays will be conducted by British experts in the field, who came purposely for this occasion.

FWA's goal is to raise interest within the local public to make this a yearly event, where locals may find a new passion for a sport that not many are aware of its part in our national heritage.

The event is being organised to raise funds for the renovation of Fort Rinella.
