Malta-Italy relations were discussed this morning when Foreign Minister Tonio Borg met the Italian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Stefania Craxi at the Foreign Ministry.

The two sides discussed political and trade relations as well as the situation in North Africa and the Mediterranean.

Dr Tonio Borg highlighted the fact that Italy is Malta's most important trading partner with trade exchanges exceeding €1 billion. Just over 26% of Malta's total imports come from Italy. Italy is also Malta's second most important tourism market.

He also welcomed the recent announcement that 60 students from the Istituto per Ragioneri e Geometri in the town of Cirie, province of Turin, will be coming to Malta in two groups, to learn English.
