The Travel Association, which represents the majority of travel agents and tour operators in the UK, is holding its annual travel convention in Malta today.
This year the convention’s theme is Drivers of Change, and it will see more than 700 of the UK’s top travel and tourism executives convening in Malta for the first time.
It will boast speakers such as British Airways CEO Willie Walsh, former London mayor Ken Livingstone, and Lord Fowler, a former UK Cabinet minister, among others. Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is scheduled to make the opening address at 9 a.m.
“The convention, which is being organised for the first time ever in Malta, is a unique opportunity for the islands to be showcased among an elite selection of top British travel executives,” Malta Tourism Authority CEO Josef Formosa Gauci said.
He said the UK remained Malta’s foremost source market for tourism and this was precisely why the MTA, Air Malta and various other tourism stakeholders worked tirelessly to bring the convention to the island.
