Malta this evening held their final training session ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2012 Group F qualifier against Croatia in Zagreb (kick-off 5.30).

All the 19 players in John Buttigieg's squad took part in the training drill at the Maksimir Stadium, the venue of tomorrow's match, but there are still doubts over the fitness of Carlo Mamo. The Marsaxlokk left-back has yet to fully recover from a thigh strain but his condition has improved significantly in the last two days.

Buttigieg is expected to consult Mamo and his medical staff before making a decision on whether to include him in the squad for tomorrow's daunting match, Malta's fourth in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

Before this evening's practice session, Buttigieg addressed a news conference, the first time he has spoken to the media since the squad landed in Croatia on Sunday evening. The Malta coach's co-operation with the press, notably The Times, given that we're the only media organisation from Malta to be covering the national team in Zagreb, has left much to be desired so far.

"This will be another difficult match," Buttigieg told reporters. "Hopefully we will produce a good performance, give Croatia a hard time and get a good result."

Buttigieg must make at least two changes from his starting team for last month's Georgia qualifier (0-1) as defender Andrei Agius and Andrew Cohen are suspended. On the plus side, Daniel Bogdanovic returns after serving his one-match and Maltese-Australian midfielder John Hutchinson has endorsed Buttigieg's call to be part of the Malta squad for tomorrow's match.

Croatia will be without injured strikers Ivica Olic and Nikica Jelavic, of Bayern Munich and Rangers respectively, but all the other players are at coach Slaven Bilic's disposal.

Malta are still looking for their first point in the Euro 2012 qualifiers after suffering three defeats in their opening three matches. Croatia, the favourites to win Group F, have seven points from three matches. Victory over Malta tomorrow would enable Croatia to leapfrog Greece, who have eight points, at the top of the group.
