Malta has been granted a nine-month extension to settle its extra €13 million EU contribution bill.

The extension was granted at an EU Finance Ministers’ meeting in which Finance Minister Edward Scicluna sought clarifications on the workings of Malta’s bill.

Time extensions were also granted to other member states whose bill rose as a result of their economic growth.

The ministers agreed to amend the regulations so that member states would be able to defer payments to not later than September 1, 2015, without interest.
