Ten sailors were rescued from aboard a locally registered cargo ship, MV Mirabelle, after it ran aground in Norway yesterday morning.

The Malta Maritime Authority said the Russian and Norwegian sailors were safely evacuated by the Norwegian rescue services. The Norwegian Rescue Coordination Centre told a foreign news agency a passenger ship in the vicinity was assisting the cargo ship while two coast guard ships and a helicopter were on their way to its location.

The authority said salvage operations are being carried out accordingly and it is closely monitoring the investigation into the cause of the accident.

The cargo ship was carrying wood.
