Malta Enterprise is organising a business delegation to Israel and the Palestinian territories with the aim of exploring trade and investment opportunities as well as possible areas of cooperation.

“With flourishing ICT, services and R&D sectors, amongst others, Israel and the Palestinian Territories present numerous business opportunities waiting to be exploited,” Malta Enterprise said.

Malta Enterprise is currently receiving applications from entrepreneurs interested in taking part in the business delegation, which is scheduled to take place between February 26 and March 3, 2011.

While conflicts are often given prominence over the positive news in the region, Malta’s Ambassador in Tel Aviv Abraham Borg confirmed that the city, its environs and the rest of the country are considered to be safe.

“This accounts for the tourism boom both in Israel and the Palestinian Territories,” Mr Borg pointed out, while he referred to a number of business and institutional delegations that have visited the region in the past years with positive outcomes. A delegation led by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg has in fact just returned to Malta after a three-day visit to Israel and the Palestine Territories – his second visit in as many years. Dr Borg's talks focused on the Middle East peace process and areas of bilateral cooperation, including tourism, ICT and other business opportunities.

Sectors in which both countries present good opportunities for Maltese entrepreneurs include life sciences, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, ICT, electronics, travel and tourism, alternative energies, new media as well as food and beverages.

Israel’s hi-tech capabilities are world-renowned, with the country being among the global leaders in sectors such as ICT and R&D and considered by several investors to be the land of opportunity. Nevertheless, the country also performs well in sectors such as healthcare, transport and agriculture. In addition to future growth, the Palestinian territories can already boast a multitude of promising economic sectors ready for investment particularly in the services industry, with sectors such as transportation, tourism and ICT in rapid expansion.
