An Irish company based in Malta has managed to penetrate the Mexican market and also secured its fourth order for a mobile sewage treatment plant for the oil industry in Libya.

The Group Chairman of FM Environmental, Eamonn J Fitzpatrick, announced the breakthroughs during a Malta Enterprise business delegation event in Ireland.

The company - which manufactureses and exports grease traps, waste water treatment plants, and other environmentally related products - has been operating in Malta for over 15 years and exports to the Gulf Region, Europe and North Africa thanks to the assistance of Malta Enterprise and Malta Industrial Parks.

The business delegation to Ireland was led by the chairman of Malta Enterprise, Alan Camilleri, and is composed of 22 company representatives that are promoting a range of business sectors including pharmaceuticals, financial services, ICT, foodstuffs, travel and tourism, electronics, renewable energy and other goods and services.

A number of one to one meetings were held with Irish company representatives to discuss business cooperation for trade, investment, technology transfer and strategic alliances.

During a ‘Doing Business in Malta’ event, Mr Camilleri outlined the main strategic priorities for Malta including high value added manufacturing, education and training, tourism and healthcare services, financial services and ICT.

“Trade between Malta and Ireland reached €30 million in 2009 and the new economic realities might lead to new opportunities for business cooperation. Notwithstanding the major issues being faced by the Irish economy, Malta and Ireland stand to gain from mutual co-operation due to the similarities in their economic landscape. Like the Maltese, Irish entrepreneurs believe in their own economy and this in itself bodes well for the future,” said Mr Camilleri.

Mr Camilleri also had meetings with potential investors, including a meeting with the interim CEO of Cryptologic, a global publicly traded online gaming software development company, who through the assistance of Malta Enterprise has relocated most of its operations from Cyprus and London to Malta and who in the space of the last year has set-up its largest operation in Malta creating 50 jobs. Following the meeting, Mr. Camilleri commented that “Cryptologic reported their satisfaction at the speed and efficiency with which the transition has taken place and is very satisfied with the quality of the human resources employed in the Malta operation.”

The delegation will also attend a number of events in London in conjunction with Finance Malta and the Institute of Directors.
