With reference to Albert Cilia-Vincenti’s reply of October 7 (Malta Under The British Empire), in which he quoted, inter alia, part of the closing sentence of my letter of October 1 (Malta As A Colony), I have to correct him about his closing paragraph.

I did not say that by joining the EU Malta is worse off than it ever was, I said “in many ways worse off”.

The omission of the phrase “in many ways” makes all the difference to a part of my argument. I admit that by joining the EU Malta made gigantic steps forward in the socioeconomic and other fields but not without sacrifices and risks, like which we never experienced before. I agree, there could be no gains without pains.

With regard to the reply by Martin Testaferrata Moroni Viani of October 7 to the same letter, the chronicle he submitted does not alter the essence of my initial argument.
