Malta has placed 24th in the tourism competitiveness index of the World Economic Forum, a gain of two positions since a similar survey in 2011.

Malta was placed ahead of Italy, Greece, Poland Bulgaria, Cyprus and Estonia.

Switzerland and Germany remained in the top two positions, followed by Austria and the UK.

The USA was in sixth.

140 countries were classified.

A record 1.51 million tourists visited Malta between January and November last year.
