Hungary beat Malta 1-0 in a 2010 World Cup Group One qualifier at Ta'Qali this evening.

The only goal came from a Sandor Torghelle header in the 23rd minute.

Hungary was in control for most of the match but did not dominate, enabling Malta to hold its own.

The Maltese were, however, unable to create any real chances to score.

Hungary came close to scoring again twice in the second half. Huszti's effort from a corner was punched to safety by Maltese goalkeeper Justin Haber and a powerful firt-timer, also by Huszti went just wide.

The match was watched by a crowd of some 7,000.

Referee: Johannes Valgeirsson (Iceland).
