Training sessions at Chelsea are "terrifying", according to winger Florent Malouda, who has also criticised the diet of his Stamford Bridge team-mates.

The 13 million-pound signing from Lyon said: "Training sessions are terrifying. They are just like matches, and you go flat out.

"During the actual games it is as though everybody's brains are switched off. People play by instinct, in the way they did when they first discovered football."

Malouda said he has been surprised at what he considers poor preparation for matches.

"The people at Chelsea don't control what the players eat," he said. "You can help yourself to whatever you like, drink Coke or anything.

"It's a good thing I came here when I was 27 and so haven't been following the same diet as the rest of the players."
