I refer to the letter by Anthony Curmi (February 5) responding to my letter on the falling value of the sterling. I remember clearly stating that "I do not fault Mr Curmi's arguments in any way". I cannot understand his belligerent response to that or why he should take umbrage. I have had this sort of problem before with my interlocutors on this medium.

One has to ask: Is it beyond some people to conduct a debate in a civilised and respectful way towards somebody with an opposing or alternative view? What kind of people are we that we lose all sight of the ethics involved in debate and turn an issue of minute proportions into confrontational antagonism?

In his response, Mr Curmi brought in an element of politics when the subject should not have gone beyond elementary economic cause and effect and there lies the rub. As the American luminary once famously said in a wartime quote: "Include me out".

If politics and a bellicose attitude is all that Mr Curmi has to offer to enlighten us on macroeconomics, then include me out also.
