People are being urged to make the world a better place during the five days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Instead of hitting the sales, social enterprise the Flexible Thinking Forum is calling on people to take small, practical actions during these five days, as part of its Twixtmas campaign.

The not-for-profit organisation said the period of "Twixtmas", from December 27 to January 31, was often when people complained of being bored and having nothing to do.

It is encouraging people to make the most of these days by doing good deeds such as giving to charity, helping a neighbour or picking up litter.

Instead of binge-shopping, or binge-drinking during the post-Christmas period, the forum said it wanted to persuade people to choose "binge-doing" and help make the world a better place.

Organisers are hoping the Twixtmas campaign will help people think differently about the period between the two public holidays of Christmas and New Year, and make use of untapped resources, energy and opportunities.

Twixtmas campaign organiser Andy Green said: "The five days of Twixtmas, between December 27 and December 31, are an ideal time to do your very own 'happiness work-out'.

"Most people put things off or don't get round to doing them because they say they don't have time.

"There is no reason why most of us, over the Twixtmas break shouldn't enjoy some 'binge happiness'.

"Imagine if most people did five things during Twixtmas to make the world a better place. Wouldn't it be great if you did some small thing to help make this happen?"

To help people get the most of Twixtmas, the forum has themed each of the five days.

Day one is themed on people spoiling themselves; day two is about doing something for someone else, day three is focused on helping friends; day four is about doing something for the planet and day five encourages people to do something for their future.

Anyone can take part in the campaign, from individuals to families, community groups and charities.
